Terms of Use
This site sells nothing, asks for nothing and installs nothing, so these terms are short. They cover reading the pages, downloading a sample excerpt, and writing to Fran.

About these terms
www.franannaford.com is the website of the novelist Fran Annaford. It is here to tell you about her books and to let you read a little of them before you decide.
Nothing is sold here and no software is licensed to you, so there is no end-user licence agreement to accept. These terms do that job instead: they are the conditions on which the site is offered to you. By reading it you accept them. If you would rather not, nothing obliges you to stay.
Who owns what is here
The novels, the extracts from them, the answers in the Q&A and the biographical writing on the Author page are Fran Annaford’s work and her copyright. The cover designs and the published editions belong to their own copyright owners, including her publisher, and appear here with permission. The design and code of the site are the property of their authors.
All of it is protected by copyright, in the United Kingdom and under international copyright conventions. Rights not expressly given below are reserved.
What you may do
Read the site. Download a sample excerpt, keep it, print it, and read it on whatever device you like. Quote briefly from the site in a review, an article or a piece of academic work, with Fran credited — and for that matter, recommend the books to anyone you please. None of that needs permission.
The excerpts are offered free for your own reading, and the permission above is for personal, non-commercial use.
What you may not do
Without Fran’s written permission, please do not:
- republish, post, sell, licence or otherwise distribute the excerpts or any substantial part of the site’s text, whether for money or not;
- use any of it to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine-learning model or generative system, or scrape, harvest or bulk-download it for that purpose or any other;
- adapt the novels or the characters in them, or publish work derived from them;
- remove or alter any copyright notice, author credit or attribution;
- present the site or its contents as your own, or as endorsed by Fran when it is not;
- frame the site inside another, or copy its design or code;
- attack or interfere with the site, or try to reach any part of it not meant to be public.
Nothing in this section takes away what copyright law already allows you — quotation, criticism, review, news reporting, research and private study, and the exceptions that exist for accessibility, which the Accessibility page positively invites you to use.
The books are fiction
The novels are works of fiction. The characters, the companies, the productions and the incidents in them are invented or used fictitiously, and any resemblance to a real person, living or dead, or to a real organisation or event, is coincidental and not intended. Where a real place, work or public institution is named, it is used as the setting of a story and nothing in the writing is a statement of fact about it or about any real person connected with it.
Buying the books
The books are sold by Fran’s publisher and by booksellers, not on this site. The links on these pages are offered to save you a search; they are plain links, they carry no affiliate or referral code, and Fran receives nothing when you follow one.
Any purchase is a contract between you and that bookseller, on their terms, with your consumer rights against them. Prices, editions, formats, availability and delivery are theirs, change without notice here, and cannot be guaranteed by this site. Links to other websites are not an endorsement of them, and Fran is not responsible for their content or their practices.
Writing to Fran
The Contact page gives an email address, and Fran reads her own mail. Please keep what you send civil and lawful, and send only what is yours to send. The Privacy page explains what happens to your message.
Two things are worth saying plainly, as most authors do. Email is not a confidential channel, and sending a message creates no obligation of confidence and no business or agency relationship. And please do not send unsolicited manuscripts, synopses, story ideas or proposals: Fran cannot read them, they will not be treated as confidential, and if an idea you sent should happen to resemble something she writes later, she owes you nothing for it. Writers arrive at similar ideas all the time, and she would rather say so now than disappoint you later.
The site is offered as it is
Fran takes care that this site is accurate and that it stays up, but it is provided as it is, with no warranty. Publication dates, titles, retailers and descriptions can change; the site may be unavailable, or be changed or withdrawn, at any time and without notice.
To the extent the law allows, Fran is not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site, your reliance on anything on it, or your inability to reach it. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited — and if you are a consumer, nothing in them affects your statutory rights.
Changes, and the law that applies
These terms may be revised from time to time. The version on this page is the one in force, and the date below tells you when it last changed.
They are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of your own country’s mandatory consumer law, nor of your right to bring proceedings in your own country’s courts.
